Cheshire Phoenix Wheelchair Basketball club are the proud owners of five new RGK Sports Wheelchairs thanks to the Sports Wheelchair Sponsorship Scheme at The Lord’s Taverners.
Since their move to the new Ellesmere Port Sports Venue the club membership has increased and the club needed more sports wheelchairs to enable more young people to take part in the sport so they worked hard to raise the funds through bag packing and collecting in Chester Town Centre, ASDA Chester and Sainsbury’s Chester and they also received a donation from Chester Waitrose.
Club Treasurer Karen Illston said “Without the support of these local businesses we could not have raised the money we needed and the club are so grateful for their help. It is great to see the players in their new chairs”
To add to the Club’s success one of their newest players Ben Field-Davies from Ellesmere Port has also received a new sports wheelchair from The Lord’s Taverners thanks to the efforts of local School Games Organiser Mark Poole based at the University Church of England Academy in Ellesmere Port.
Mark said “It was such an honour to have helped Ben fulfil one of his dreams of being able to be more active and play some of his favourite sports both in and out of school. Ben’s confidence has gone from strength to strength since he has had use of his own sports chair, and it’s been great to see him play with a smile on his face”
Club Head Coach Anna Jackson said “It makes such a difference for our young players to have chairs made to their requirements and we can already see the difference in their game. It’s also great to have new chairs available for when other new people join the club. We would like to say a huge thankyou to all the organisations that helped us raise the money and to The Lord Taverner’s and RGK Wheelchairs for their generous support”.
